Paid job/internship: Kathy Hendricks is looking for a gerontology student (or multiple) to assist in care for her 93 year old mother, who is in good health but is not very mobile. She is in a wheelchair most of the time and cannot be left alone. Kathy would like students to come up during the day (usually between 8 am and 3 pm) to be with her mother so she can run errands and get things done. Hours will be very flexible with students’ schedules. She needs help on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Fridays. It sounds like Kathy is willing to take multiple students on, so even if only one day a week works for you or only three hours each day, I got the impression that she was willing to be flexible in making this work for BYU students. She is anxious to provide you the opportunity to help develop the activity programs at their assisted living center and gain real experience in this field)
Mountainland Aging & Family Services Department are looking for students who are available to perform internships for 100 hours or more as volunteer ombudsmen (resident advocates). These interns would visit assisted living facilities on a flexible schedule of their choice by checking on quality of life and care of the residents living there. Senior citizens age 60+ with limited income act as companions to homebound seniors by providing transportation assistance, limited personal care, home management assistance, meal planning, and respite care. Companions serve approximately ten clients per week for 2-4 hours each visit and receive a small stipend for their services.
